Damaged Shipments and Shortages
Signing a bill of lading or delivery sheet serves as an acknowledgement to the carrier that the goods were delivered in satisfactory condition. Examining all shipments before signing a bill of lading or delivery sheet is the responsibility of the Customer. Any damage or shortage detected in the shipment must be recorded on the bill of lading or the delivery sheet and the carrier’s driver must sign and acknowledge this record. The Customer must retain a copy of the signed bill of lading or delivery sheet and initiate a claim with the carrier. Any claims initiated without a notation of damage or shortage on a signed bill of lading or delivery sheet will not be accepted for a claim at a later date.
